Skateboarding vs minimalism

Working with Australian artist Shaun Gladwell, we developed a performance and speaking event based on his video installation Skateboarders VS Minimalism featuring street skate legend Rodney Mullen, in collaboration with the Luminato festival and sponsored by Monkey Shoulder. Minimalist sculptures were recreated and used as skate obstacles by pro skaters, in a block party setting, inspired by Gladwell’s film of the same name. Gladwell and Mullen led a public conversation exploring street skating as a form of urban dance and discussed their respective creative processes that led from the street to the gallery. 

judy chicago’s dinner Party

Timed to coincide with Art Toronto, this art and culinary event was a collaboration between Nielsen and chef Alexandra Feswick, that brought together female chefs and artists to create a performative dining event, inspired and supported by Judy Chicago and her ground breaking installation, The Dinner Party. Works by Ness Lee, Diane Borsato and Sandra Brewster graced the table, while a multiple by Jennifer Murphy was gifted to each guest and chef at the end of the night. Chef Feswick and her team developed multiple courses that directly referenced the female body, women’s history and personal narrative.

Peaches does herself

Collaborating with the Toronto International Film Festival for a closing night performance, Nielsen curated and produced a building-wide performance with internationally celebrated performer, Peaches in support of the premier of her film Peaches Does Herself. The performance was based on pivotal scenes in the film and included 25 support performers including Sandy Kane, Danny Daniels and a host of musicians and dancers, activating all zones in the building over 5 hours.
